About The Single Gourmet Founded in New York in 1982, The Single Gourmet has established itself as the world's premier social dining and travel club. The premise of The Single Gourmet is simple: We offer single men and women the opportunity to share good food and drink while engaging in interesting and intelligent conversation in pleasant surroundings. The object is to make new friends and put an end to boring, solitary dining! In a typical year we will visit paragons of culinary excellence like David Burke Townhouse, Shun Lee, 4 Seasons, Petrossian and The 21 Club while also embracing somewhat more exotic ethnics like Maya, Nam and Sofrito. We normally hold a half-dozen events a month. As a member, you are permitted to attend as many events as you choose. However, The Single Gourmet is not limited to dining experiences alone. We often attend theater and other cultural events in New York, and we frequently offer day-trips to destinations of interest like the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, New York. Travel opportunities are also an important and compelling facet of The Single Gourmet. Over the years we have literally traveled to the four corners of the earth. We have visited Paris, Rome, and London as well as more far-flung destinations like Beijing, Sydney, and Rio de Janeiro. In a typical year we offer two "long-weekend" trips to destinations in the United States that offer superb dining like Santa Fe, New Orleans, and San Francisco and the Napa valley. Our international trips, which we usually make for durations of ten days or so, are a gourmet's dream-come-true. Over the past few years we have visited Paris and the Wine Country, Rome and the Amalfi coast as well as taken a Mittel Europa trip to Vienna, Prague and Budapest and spent New Year's in Sicily. From the vast array of culinary and cultural experiences in New York to the even greater and more varied opportunities throughout the world, The Single Gourmet strives to make excellence in dining and travel accessible to all its members while, at the same time, providing a comfortable social setting for the making of new friends.
